out with the old...
hello everyone!
well the timely updates continued to be not so timely, but i've managed to just barely sneak one more into 2006 so as to not seem like a complete slacker. read more...

grand canyon - been there, done that!
hello all!
mission accomplished! my car, which had been left behind in seattle when i moved to new orleans, is now back with me again. we left two weeks ago and we finally made it back to new orleans, 3100 miles and 3 national parks later.
since our internet access on the road was sketchy at best, i've gone ahead and written up a proper travelogue and put it all up on my web site, along with all the pics. you can check it out here: The American Southwest Roadtrip
thanks for letting me bug you all once again with my little travel stories and i hope you like all the pics!

monsters and reptiles and rain, oh my!
howdy folks!
things are going along smoothly here in new orleans. the heat is still hot, the rain falls hard when it rains and i still feel clueless at family dinners (since this part of the family speaks vietnamese and i still don't). read more...

have you seen my crickets?
yowzers... 3100 miles, 103 degrees and a swarm of crickets later, i'm now back in new orleans. the move was long, hot and bothersome, but when is a move ever fun?
the drive went by fairly well, actually. no car problems, no big construction delays, just lots of driving. we got to fort worth in about 3.5 days. mai's friend rebecca is there (a new orleans refugee) and she put us up for the night. the next day we went to austin and stayed for 2 nights visiting with andrea and her mom (more new orleans refugees). they had just moved into their own new house and we met lots of their friends. mai loved austin and would love to open a coffee house there also. as soon as we get coolbeans #1 opened up... read more...

...and they're off!
well, not really, not yet.
we have another load or two of boxes and misc. stuff to take to storage, and then the quick cleaning of the apartment and then we still have to pack the car.
but other than that, we're done and hitting the road today.
i've gotten a few emails from many of you over this last week or 2 that i haven't replied to and i apologize for that. it's just been really busy getting everything packed and moved and such.
we'll be on the road for a few days and then hanging out in austin, tx for a couple days or so visiting one of mai's best friends from new orleans (she never moved back after the hurricane) and then eventually we'll make it to new orleans ourselves. i'm hoping to have occasionaly internet access during the trip and once we get to austin, but we'll see how that goes. i may end up being offline for the next week or so. don't panic, i'll be ok somehow... i'll manage.
and with that, we're out of here!
take care! -jesse & mai

big, giant cross country move # 712
ok, this isn't really my 712th cross country move, but it sort of feels like that.
anyway, lots of things have happened in the last month and we've come to a decision about it. as of the end of the month, me and mai will no longer be living in seattle and will be on our way back to new orleans. recent events have been slowly working towards that and we've decided that it's no time like the present and thus we're moving.
we'll be at my current apartment until july 31 and then will spend a few days driving first to austin, tx, to visit with our friend andi and her mom. they used to live in new orleans but decided to not go back after the hurricane. after a few days there spent scoping out the scene and seeing if it would be a good home for a future coolbeans coffeehouse location, we'll head to new orleans and really get the ball rolling towards opening a new coffeehouse.
all of my stuff will once again be placed in storage here in seattle and we'll once again be living with mai's sister jessie in their newly rebuilt house. might as well save costs where we can and her house is big enough for all of us.
my email and cell phone won't be changing, just my address. once i get that, i'll pass it on to everyone.
unfortunately, since andi has given us a deadline for making it to austin, there won't be much of a travelogue on this trip. but since we'll be leaving a car behind us in seattle, we're flying back in late september to get it and will make a more fun roadtrip out of it then.
that's all the news for now. i hope you're all doing well and you'll hear from me again once i have that address and before we start off on our drive.
until then, take care!

hello everyone!
hello everyone!
apologies for the extreme lack of communication on my part. things were just very stressful for me at the end of 2005 and i ended up taking a few months off after we got back to seattle from cleveland and just played lots of video games and tried to unwind from it all. between a super hard end of school and all of the katrina mess and helping mai get situated and comfortable, i really needed some downtime. read more...
